The NFL Underdog Story: Back in the Saddle

After two weeks of losing and just breaking even, the underdogs were back in a big way in week 6, thanks mostly to upsets by the New York Jets +190, New York Giants +290 and the Pittsburgh Steelers +370. Overall we went 6-8 and returned +4.55 units our best return since week 3, bringing us to an incredible 13.53 for the season.

You could sense the week was going to be a profitable one early in the afternoon last when the Atlanta Falcons +165 answered the 49ers first half comeback to go up 21-14 at the half. Marcus Mariota was efficient and near perfect passing the ball and the Atlanta run game was unstoppable racking up 168 yards on the way to 28-14 win. Meanwhile in Pittsburgh +370, the Steelers bent but did not break, holding Tom Brady’s Buccaneers to kick 3 Field goals of 30 yards or less. This proved to be key as the Steelers were able to hold off the Bucs 20-18.

Keeping the momentum going the aforementioned Jets took the Packers to halftime 3-3. With the Packers struggling to do anything at all on offense and trailing 10-3 in the early third quarter, New York blocked a punt for a touchdown putting the Jets up 17-3. That was more than enough as the Jets defense continued to frustrate a hurting Aaron Rodgers, and won the game 27-10.

Not to be outdone by their stadium and city mates, the Giants held serve at home and somehow upended Lamar Jackson and the Ravens despite being out-gained 406 to 238. A timely interception set up the game winning touchdown drive and a fumble recovery on the following drive sealed the game for Brian Daboll and now 5-1 Giants.

Bailey Zappe is making a case to take over the starting quarterback job for the New England Patriots +128 even after Mac Jones returns after throwing for 309 yards and 2 tds in a 38-15 thrashing of the Cleveland Browns.

The afternoon brought us our last win as Seattle +112 and Geno Smith are still not writing back as the took down the flightless Cardinals 19-9. It appears Seattle new what they were doing moving on from Russell Wilson as he has the Broncos offense looking rider less.
