Road Trip to Richmond: The First Voyage of the Pokatokmobile 1

With the commissioning of decals on my Subaru Outback, I am setting out to serve as a mobile billboard for the Pokatok Festival. In the first of many odysseys to sporting events across the nation, I head to Richmond, Virginia at the end of the month for the NASCAR race at Richmond Raceway. Thanks to a little haphazard planning our journey begins July 27th on the road trip to Richmond.

Road Trip to Richmond Itinerary

The first leg of the trip is a twelve-hour haul from Houston, Texas to Chattanooga, Tennessee. The stretch of I-10 between Houston at Baton Rouge may feature some stops for food in Cajun Country. I might just visit a couple of big college football schools along the way as well.

Speaking of, leg two of the journey takes me from Chattanooga to Roanoke, Virginia – right through Knoxville, Tennessee. Also along this stretch is another NASCAR circuit at Bristol Motor Speedway. Compared to the opening day of the trip, leg two comes in a short travel time of just under six hours.

Finally, from Roanoke, it’s just a two-and-a-half-hour jog to our grand destination of Richmond. Of course, I can’t come this close to a National Park I’ve never visited without stopping so I will be detouring through Shenandoah.

Waking up Sunday morning it’s race day. Short-track racing at historic Richmond Raceway headlines the Road Trip to Richmond schedule before I leave directly after the race and head south to Greenville, SC as a stopping point for the night.

Finally, when I wake up Monday morning it’ll be a thirteen-hour drive back to Houston from Greenville to finish off a whirlwind trek. Atlanta happens to lie along the way so I just might have to squeeze in a stop in one of my favorite Southern cities.

I’ll be giving away merch along the trip so be sure to follow Pokatok_Fest on social media to keep track of my journey. If you find me along the way, you might just get some free Pokatok gear!
