The Men’s College World Series in Omaha consistently provides entertainment on the diamond. However, the festivities in Omaha extend well beyond the diamond. A notable side competition at Rocco’s Pizza and Cantina features fanbases battling against each other to purchase the most jello shots over the course of the tournament with the proceeds from every shot sold going to food banks for all eight teams as well as the Heartland Food Bank.
Rocco’s Challenge History at the Men’s College World Series
Ole Miss conquered the challenge in 2022 by setting a record and purchasing 18,777 en route to the Rocco’s Jello Shot Challenge title. It didn’t take long for an SEC foe to shatter that record in 2023. The LSU Tigers obliterated the record when Raising Cane’s founder and LSU super fan Todd Graves bought 6,000 of the famous jello shots to send the Bayou Bengals over the top.
In addition to a new record by a team in the competition, the LSU effort also set records for both the most total shots all-time in Rocco’s competition and the most shots purchased at one time in the Guinness Book of World Records. While the Tigers set the new record at 21,435 shots, that number is sure to grow. With another week of on-field competition left to go in Omaha will LSU continue to build their lead. Will another team step up to challenge the Tigers in the competition? Only time will tell.
One thing is sure though, the great cause of Rocco’s donating proceeds to food banks makes all of this spirited competition worth it. I look forward to seeing the end of the competition at the Men’s College World Series and off of the field in Omaha.
