Champions League Predictions

Tuesdays and Wednesdays are about to get much more exciting. The biggest and best club football competition is about to start next week (Champions League) and I’m here to go through each group and predict which two teams from each group will advance. The 32 best teams from all over Europe will battle it out to claim the richest and best prize in club football. The biggest teams in Europe are competing so let’s take a look at what I think happens with each group.

Group A

Bayern Munich
Manchester United
Copenhagen
Galatasaray

The big two teams (Man U and Bayern) should easily advance through this group with the only question being, who finishes top. I think Bayern will win at home, earn a draw on the away leg, and advance as winners of the group, with Manchester United finishing 2nd. Copenhagen and Galatasaray likely find themselves in a battle for third at best.

Group B

Sevilla
Arsenal
PSV
Lens

Arsenal should coast through the group and win. Sevilla and PSV will battle it out for 2nd and my prediction is that PSV will finish just ahead of Sevilla for the 2nd spot. Lens look like a distant fourth in Group B.

Group C

Napoli
Real Madrid
Braga
Union Berlin

Another fairly easy group to predict here. Napoli and Real should easily advance but I think that Napoli will finish 1st on goal differential. Union Berlin could surprise someone but it’s more likely they battle Braga for third place. Neither Union Berlin nor Braga look like real threats to advance.

Group D

Benfica
Inter Milan
RB Salzburg
Real Sociedad

Benfica and Inter will advance from this group with Benfica finishing top and Inter in 2nd. Sociedad will give both of these teams good games but fall short of qualifying for the knockout rounds. RB Salzburg occupies the bottom of Group D.

Group E

Feyenoord
Atletico Madrid
Lazio
Celtic

Atletico should easily win this group with their talent in front of the goal but 2nd place is going to be interesting here. I see all 3 of the other teams being competitive for the final spot to advance but it’ll come down to the last match day and Lazio will end up finishing 2nd. Feyenoord edges Celtic for 3rd while the Scottish side will finish last in Group E.

Group F

PSG
Borussia Dortmund
AC Milan
Newcastle

Group F clearly represents the “Group of Death”. PSG are the “big club” here, but I think with 2/3 of their forwards (Messi and Neymar) gone now, PSG will fail to finish in the top 2. My prediction is that Milan and newcomers Newcastle will advance from the “Group of Death” while PSG crash out in the first round along with Borussia Dortmund.

Group G

Manchester City
RB Leipzig
Young Boys
Crvena Zvezda

Straight forward as can be. The defending champions, Man City, will cruise through the group and RB Leipzig will finish 2nd. Young Boys and Crvena Zvezda will attempt to pull off a miracle but neither have the pieces to advance from the group stage.

Group H

Barcelona
FC Porto
Shaktar Donetsk
Antwerp

Barcelona should top this group without any major problems. 2nd place will be a battle between Shakhtar and Porto but I think Porto will advance by a small margin, maybe even a goal difference. Antwerp falls to last place in Group H.

It should be a great season of Champions League football. Where is my money going for the overall winner? Manchester City at +250 is where it’ll be but I also plan on sprinkling some money on Barcelona (+1400) and Athletico Madrid (+2500). Either way, I’m looking forward to seeing how this Champions League season plays out.
